tree frog

portrait of a tree frog
The little tree frog is one of the best known species of amphibians in Europe. It is only a few centimeters in size and has a leafy green appearance. Only this species of frogs possesses adhesive discs at the tips of its fingers and toes, enabling tree frogs to climb shrubs and trees where they spent most of their time out of spawning season.
Nowadays, tree frogs are endangered. The need small and pristine water bodies as spawning grounds which have become scarce in our environment. Additionally, in order to reach these spawning grounds they sometimes travel for several miles, often becoming victims of road kill on the way.
A few years back I had the chance to see a tree frog while walking in the woods and I was immediately fascinated by this tiny and brightly green creature. Unfortunately, all species of amphibians are endangered today. Each spring they embark on a particularly dangerous journey, i.e. their migration to the spawing grounds. With this drawing I want to raise awareness for their situation.
